VISions - Call For Participation

New this year, VISions is a venue for forward-thinking ideas to inspire the broad visualization community (including both researchers and practitioners).

The goal is thus to propose new directions rather than to report on existing results. Proposals will be reviewed based on novelty and relevance, and how productively and generatively provocative the ideas are.

Potential Topics

Submissions should aim to start a meaningful and well-informed discussion about future directions for interactive visualization and visual analysis. Potential topics can include:

  • future trends
  • foundational technologies that we need to make progress on
  • significant, compelling problems that the community might address
  • topics that are absent from the community’s work
  • an alternative perspective on what we do

Submissions from early-career researchers and professionals (e.g., junior faculty) are particularly encouraged!

Submission Information

  • 1 page abstract (not including references) in the VGTC conference two-column format.
  • Single-authored. Not-anonymous, so please include the author’s name and affiliation(s) as part of the submission.
  • Please submit your VISion through PCS (IEEE VIS Visions). After logging into PCS, start your submission by selecting “VGTC > VIS 2026 > VIS VISions 2026”.
  • Non-archival. Ideas presented as a VISion can be resubmitted as a full paper in subsequent years.
  • VISion abstracts (but not the presentation slides) will be included as part of the conference proceedings.

Selection Process

VISions will be curated by the VIS 2026 General Chairs. Thus, this process will be substantially less rigorous than paper review, and will not include an author’s response or conditional acceptance—i.e., authors will not receive any formal feedback other than the selection decision.

Up to two speakers will be selected.

Presentation Format

  • 1 session at the conference will be convened for both VISion talks.
  • Each VISion talk will be 20-minutes long, followed by a 40-minute moderated Q&A discussion panel.
  • Accepted speakers will be required to sign an approval form to record and publish the talk.
  • The General Chairs may ask to review slides ahead of the conference to ensure an engaging and generative conversation.

Thank you to UIST Visions for the inspiration!
